What We Do

Programs Offered at NEMO AHEC

Healthcare Pipeline

Our pipeline programs work with high schools, student interest clubs, and regional post-secondary institutions to provide hands-on workshops to prepare students for college and careers in healthcare, growing Missouri’s healthcare workforce.

Community Education and Outreach

We strives to encourage and improve community health by implementing programs and events which provide free health screenings, free dental screenings, and free sports physicals to our communities. Educational programs are developed based on the current needs of local communities to address health issues and concerns.

Continuing Education (CE)

We focus on providing Interprofessional Education (IPE) experiences to local health professional community as well as engage educators working with students interested in the healthcare field. We strive for rapid response to emergent training on issues associated with disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and substance use disorders.

Success Stories from NEMO

Jessica is a first-year medical student at A.T. Still University, working with NEMO AHEC to create an AHEC Scholars club on campus. “My goal for this organization is to create opportunities for professional development and increase awareness about rural and underserved healthcare.”

Dr. Kenney has participated in AHEC since high school. A native Missourian raised on a farm outside Kirksville where she now practices. “I feel like everyone should have good care, and it should be available and not something that is granted only to people in urban areas.”

Michelle Kenney, MD

Dr. Bell began her journey with AHEC in high school as part of the ACES program where she actively participated in educational workshops and job shadowing opportunities to which she attributes her decision to pursue family medicine. Dr. Bell has returned to rural Northeast Missouri to practice.
